Our undergraduates have took the first runner-up and best speaker titles in the inaugural Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition (CIBCC) held in Thailand from 20 to 25 May 2014.
Our BBA team, comprising of Chuan Lee (best speaker), Ivan Ho, Lewis Phey (team leader), and Valerie Soh competed against their counterparts from Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Thailand.
As the inaugural international business case competition hosted by Chulalongkorn University, CIBCC aims to highlight the richness and authenticity of Thai culture, while incorporating business concepts and sustainable strategies for firms in the region. All participating teams were accommodated in Doi Tung, a scenic mountainous area within the Chiang Rai province of Thailand.
The teams had 30 hours to analyse the Tourism Business Unit (TBU) of Doi Tung Development Project. Specifically, the teams had to tackle questions such as how the TBU can transfer management responsibilities to the local community, how can it capture potential opportunities presented by the proposed ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to be held in 2015, and how can it improve its financial performance and eliminate seasonality of tourist visits.
Our undergrads impressed two panel of judges with their proposed strategy and their performance during a question-and-answer session.
